For roofers

Visualizer versus sample boards: what closes more roofs

Every roofer carries samples. Almost none of them close on samples. Here is a plain comparison of the tools roofers use to help a homeowner decide, judged on one question: does the homeowner see their own house with the new roof on it.

Sample boards

A square of shingle on a board. Good for texture and for feeling the weight of the product. Useless for colour on a roof, because the board is a foot wide, held at arm's length, in the wrong light. Homeowners choose the wrong colour off boards all the time and blame the roofer when it goes up.

Brochures and photo books

Someone else's house in perfect light. They show what the product can look like and nothing about what it will look like on this house. They are fine to leave behind and no help in the driveway.

Manufacturer visualizers

GAF, Owens Corning and CertainTeed each have one. They are free, they show that brand only, and most of them ask the homeowner to trace the roof or pick a stock house. Fine for a homeowner at home on a laptop. Slow and brand-locked on a sales call.

Measurement platforms with visualization

Hover, iRoofing and Renoworks Pro bundle a visualizer with measurement, estimating and proposals. If you need the whole bundle they are good tools, at roughly $100 to $150 a month and up. If you only need the homeowner to see the roof, you are paying for a lot you will not open.

AI renders from a photo

One photo of the actual house, any product, any brand, 30 seconds, on your phone. The homeowner sees their house. That is the whole difference. RoofRender does this and gives every render a link you can text to the homeowner.

What to carry

Carry the samples for texture, and render the colour. Show the render first, hand over the sample second, and quote the roof they have already seen.

Real before and after

Each pair is one photo, rendered. The house, the light and the surroundings are untouched. Only the roof changes.

Questions

Do homeowners trust a render?
Yes when it is their own house. The photo is theirs and only the roof changes, so the comparison is fair and obvious.
Is a visualizer better than samples?
For colour, yes. For texture and product weight, samples still help. Use both, render first.
How is RoofRender different from Hover or iRoofing?
It only does the render, from any photo, for any brand, and costs less. The others bundle measurement and estimating.
Can I put it on my website?
Yes. The widget lets homeowners render their own house on your site and the leads come to you.
